Luka Koper, port and logistic system, d.d. (herein after referred Luka Koper) is a public limited company, managing the port of Koper which is the most important port in the country. Therefore the company is the main actor operating in the Slovenian maritime sector. Its core business is dealing with the port and logistic system supporting the cargo flows by using the port of Koper’s facilities. At the same time, Luka Koper is also the initiator of the Slovenian Waterborne Technologic Platform, which is today gathering more than 30 companies, organisations and institutions connected with the maritime industry in Slovenia. The platform has formulated its strategic research agenda and identified 4 fields of strategic interest: (1) competitive maritime industry (shipbuilding, equipment manufacturing); (2) consistent activities in ecology and spatial planning, (3) safe, sustainable and feasible maritime transport, and (4) efficient port logistics and highly productive port operations. Luka Koper is taking care of projects concerning port logistics and operations where the most relevant issues are: multimodality, environmental friendly handling of bulk cargoes, alternative energy supply, new distribution concepts and information systems. In terms of corporate strategic business orientations of Luka Koper, the company is also entering in activities of logistics.

Luka Koper will represent the industrial community in the region, dealing with maritime and shipbuilding concerns. In this regard, the company will accomplish the data collection in WP2 related to the industry’s activities and needs as well as will provide the country’s technology demand portfolio for the Liaison Offices to be established. Furthermore, Luka Koper will be strongly involved in the selection of industrial organisations and associations to be involved in the International shipbuilding dissemination forum and in the elaboration of the Shared Trans-national Research Agenda and the joint Action Plan.

The involvement of Luka Koper in several European projects will assure the company’s capability to carry out the attributed tasks most successfully. The company up to today participated actively in the INTERREG IIIB projects: Imonode, Gildanet, Ionas and EUREKA. Furthermore, the company was leading the Slovenian national project: Slovenian transport logistic cluster. The strong participation of Luka Koper in the Slovenian Waterborne Technologic Platform verifies the strong competence of the company to involve regional key stakeholders in the project activities (workshops, events) and in the International shipbuilding dissemination forum to be established in Work package 4.
